DR JAGATH BANDARA - PSYCHIATRIST

Dr Jagath Bandara is a general adult psychiatrist with a vast range of experience in treating mental illnesses using both medication and psychological interventions.

He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and is a fellow of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Dr Bandara has worked in the public mental health services across Australia as a consultant psychiatrist in Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland - both in inpatient and community settings.

Dr Bandara accepts referrals for treatment for a wide range of psychiatric illnesses in adults (except for medico-legal matters).

DR RATNA ASEERVATHAM (MBBS, FRACS)

Dr Aseervatham completed his medical training at the University of Queensland School of Medicine in 1991. Two years later he gained entry into the General Surgical Training Program of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. After completing his training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, he spent 2 years in the United Kingdom gaining specialised skills in HepatoPancreaticoBiliary Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.

Dr Aseervatham obtained his first consultant surgeon post at Nambour General Hospital in 2001, and has been part of the Sunshine Coast Health community ever since. He became Director of General Surgery in 2002, and then Director of Surgical Services, for the Hospital and Health Service, in 2005. During his 16 years in a leadership role, he is proudest of 2 achievements amongst several – the creating of a collaborative multidisciplinary patient-focussed culture, and a significant clinical contribution to the planning and creation of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

As a clinician, Dr Aseervatham focuses on using evidence-based practice to obtain the best possible outcomes for his patients. He understands the need for technical excellence as a surgeon, and the equally important psychosocial aspects of the therapeutic doctor-patient relationship.

DR SANJAY GANGADHARAN (MD,FRACP)

Dr Sanjay Gangadharan is a Specialist Geriatrician, now offering consulting Services with admitting rights at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. He also works as a Specialist Geriatrician for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.

Dr Gangadharan is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He completed his undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD-Internal Medicine) in India. He later moved to Australia to complete his Physician Training. Dr Gangadharan completed most of his Physician Training at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. He relocated to the Sunshine Coast to complete his Specialist Training and later joined the local Area Health Service as a Specialist.

In addition to General Geriatric Medicine, Dr Gangadharan’s special interest is Parkinson’s Disease in the older person - assessment and management of motor and non-motor complications, and specific targeted rehabilitation.

Dr Gangadharan trained at the Maurice-Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute, Kings College Hospital, London. He remains associated with Kings College Hospital through his clinical research in Parkinson’s Disease as a Senior Research Fellow. Dr Gangadharan’s other interests include cognitive dysfunction, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), geriatric syndromes with complex medical issues, pre-operative assessments and post-operative care of the elderly.

Dr Gangadharan has a strong clinical research background with 16 research publications and international presentations in the field of Parkinson’s Disease. He is affiliated to the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, Melbourne as a Principal Research Fellow. He is involved in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education through School of Clinical Medicine, University of Queensland. In his time away from work, Dr Gangadharan enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and playing cricket with his boys.

DR PETER CLARK - PSYCHIATRIST

Dr Peter Clark is an Australian educated and trained doctor, Psychiatrist and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry.

Dr Clark has an extensive public and private clinical background in general adult psychiatry, including clinical leadership roles in tertiary centres, having worked in regional and urban NSW, Victoria, Western Australia, and Queensland in both inpatient and community settings.

Dr Clark’s particular areas of clinical interest and expertise include mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, dual diagnosis (mental illness comorbid with intellectual disability) substance-related disorders and medicolegal matters. Dr. Clark is also passionate about the mental health of young individuals.
